See Martina McBride’s Emotional ‘Just Around the Corner’ Video
Martina McBride has long had a skill for recording songs that poignantly depict people finding hope in tough circumstances, from “A Broken Wing” to “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.” Her latest release “Just Around the Corner” falls into that category, and the accompanying video — which premiered in full during the 2016 CMT Awards — accordingly aims right for the heart.
The song, which appears on McBride’s first Nash Icon release Reckless, places the singer in an encourager role. She acknowledges the troubles of the person she’s addressing, but stresses hope and the need to keep moving forward. “Just around the corner, the sun’s a little warmer,” she sings. In the video, a young woman anxiously awaits a phone call from the doctor and frets over a stack of bills, while the tiny annoyances like her son’s muddy footprints compound themselves into major headaches. With support from her husband and a long look in the mirror, she finds what she needs to fight on.
“Just Around the Corner” and Reckless are something of a return to form for McBride, whose previous, independently-released album Everlasting featured loving remakes of classic soul tunes.
“It’s interesting, because I feel like the record is a little bit of a throwback sound for me,” McBride tells Rolling Stone Country. “It’s a little bit like some things I’ve done in the past. so it’s familiar but it also has some modern sounds on it.”
This weekend, McBride heads to Windsor, Ontario, where she has a June 17th show at The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor.
