Watch Rocking New Trailer for Scorsese and Jagger’s ‘Vinyl’
HBO has released a new trailer for their upcoming show Vinyl, a gritty, go-for-broke look at the music industry from executive producers Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. While the initial footage released last month teased a world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, this second glimpse at the star-studded drama dives deeper into the coke-fueled life of American Century Records president Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) as he tries to keep his label alive in late-Seventies New York.
“It’s a privilege,” Finestra tells his colleagues, “to do this job, to introduce the world to new music, to shape the culture!” Zak Yankovich (Ray Romano), the Head of Promotions at American Century, offers a more sobering perspective in response: “Richie, we’re going to be bankrupt in a month.” From there, the high-energy promo courses with the manic entrepreneurial hedonism that Scorsese previously brought to Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street, as Finestra rewards a comely young staffer (Juno Temple) for sleeping with some new talent, buries a guitar into his television set, and tries to balance his commitment to his wife (Olivia Wilde) with his commitment to his music. “Let’s show people how rock and roll is supposed to make ya feel!,” Finestra howls at the end of the trailer, which is set to a stomping tune by contemporary Icelandic rock band Kaleo.
Vinyl, which features Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter as showrunner, was originally scheduled to debut in January 2016; it will now kick off with a two-hour pilot on February 14th, written and directed by Scorsese.
