Hear Andrew Bird’s Lush, Eerie New Song ‘Roma Fade’
Andrew Bird creates tension – both musically and thematically – with “Roma Fade,” a lush highlight from his upcoming LP, Are You Serious. “You may not know me, but you feel my stare,” he sings over trademark pizzicato/bowed violin lines and stomping drums.
“‘Roma Fade’ is about the wordless dialogue between the watcher and the watched and the fine line between romance and creepiness,” Bird says in a statement. “In this song, ‘she’ is a fortress of solitude, yet the observer can still affect her with his gaze. Whether the attention is welcome or not, something between them has changed. Notice how the song shifts from third person to first person near the end and it’s actually the observer who has transformed.”
Last month, Bird teased his new album by releasing “Left Handed Kisses,” a non-traditional duet that finds Fiona Apple questioning the multi-instrumentalist’s skill at writing love songs. Bird announced the LP in early February, debuting soulful lead single “Capsized” on Conan.
Are You Serious, out April 1st, will be released in multiple formats. A deluxe box set features the exclusive Are We Not Burning? The Devolution of Capsized 10-inch boasting four new tracks and a 64-page book with art accompanying each LP song.
Bird played a round of tour dates last month in the Netherlands, and he’ll launch an American jaunt March 30th in Nashville. On April 1st, he will perform at Knoxville, TN’s Big Ears Festival.
