Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon Hold Silly, Silent Convo on ‘Tonight’
Justin Timberlake made an unexpected cameo on The Tonight Show Monday night, appearing in a short, silly bit entitled “Looks,” in which he and Jimmy Fallon held an entire conversation without saying a word.
In a scene ostensibly ripped straight from a mid-2000s romantic comedy — down to the folksy soundtrack of Rogue Wave’s 2005 cut “Eyes” — Fallon and Timberlake tilt their heads ever so slightly towards the slow-moving camera, bat their eyes and smile deeply at each other. Yet their looks speak volumes, communicating warmth, compassion, concern and understanding while they stood inches away from each other’s face.
The scene was given a jolt of OC-style melodrama, however, when the longing countenance of Will Ferrell appeared solemnly outside the window of the green room door. Though he didn’t linger long, Ferrell gazed knowingly upon Timberlake and Fallon’s wordless conversation, putting a hand up to the glass and then gliding away.
“Looks” arrived after Timberlake’s actual Tonight Show appearance last week, in which he and Fallon debuted the sixth installment of their “History of Rap” series. The breathless medley opened with Jay Z and R. Kelly’s “Fiesta” and featured classics like LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells” and Whodini’s “Friends” alongside current hits like Drake’s “Know Yourself” and Fetty Wap’s “My Way.”
Elsewhere, Timberlake recently announced he’d teamed with director Jonathan Demme for a concert film documenting his January 2nd performance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the final show of his six-legged, 134-date 20/20 Experience World Tour. Demme will begin editing the footage this fall, though there is still no release date nor distribution deal for the independent, as-yet-untitled film.
