Hear Margo Price’s Aching ‘Hands of Time’
Although most of us moved our clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Savings Time, all singer Margo Price wants to do is turn them back. In her newly-released “pseudo video” for “Hands of Time” — and throughout her upcoming solo debut album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter — Price channels some of country’s classic female artists with aching lyrics that long for a time before things started going spectacularly wrong.
As a retro-style alarm clock ticks away, Price sings, “I ain’t got the breath to say another bad word, so if I ever said it wrong won’t you forget what you heard.” Her losses pile up one after another as the reality of some questionable choices and her seemingly dire lot in life leaves nothing but a desire to turn back the “cruel hands of time.”
Price recorded Midwest Farmer’s Daughter at the historic Sun Studios in Memphis and is releasing the album on Jack White’s Nashville-based Third Man Records.
“They were the first people who didn’t want to change the album, and didn’t want to scam me for any money,” Price tells Rolling Stone Country. “I’d gotten rejections from nearly every label in town and around town, so it felt really good.”
Midwest Farmer’s Daughter will be released March 25th.
