Hear Mickey Guyton’s Spirited ‘Heartbreak Song’
Mickey Guyton breezes into summer with “Heartbreak Song,” an incisive little breakup tune that serves as a worthy follow-up to the singer’s 2015 debut, “Better Than You Left Me.” Taking the latter song’s empowered spirit a few steps further, Guyton has no interest in a man-hating pity party, trading sob stories for thumping bass and promises of swinging from a chandelier.
Laced with straight-to-the-point lines including, “You called to tell me that you made a mistake, but that was something I knew,” Guyton’s soulful vocals still carry a faint twinge of heartbreak but a couple of minutes in, by the time she insists she “better without you,” she sounds pretty much convinced.
Ahead of the song’s official release, the Texas native who spent the summer of 2015 touring with Brad Paisley, got fans into the action, giving them the opportunity to share some of the upbeat lyrics on social media.
Guyton will be in Nashville, along with thousands of country-music fans, for CMA Music Fest next week. On Thursday, June 9th, she’ll host her “Heartbreak Song CMA Fest Fan Party) and she’s among the 40 artists appearing at the free Park Stage on downtown Nashville’s Walk of Fame.
