Watch Stephen Colbert Mock Failed Candidates Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina
With the South Carolina primary set for Saturday, Stephen Colbert revived The Late Show‘s Hunger Games parody to highlight the “bloodsport” that is running for president. “For people on TV, conflict is our bread and butter, and America is both gluten- and lactose-intolerant,” Colbert said.
“It’s becoming increasingly obvious to me that our politics are a contact sport. It’s mano a mano between people who would deport you if you understand the phrase ‘mano a mano,'” Colbert said. “The candidates are currently battling it out for the genteel voters of South Carolina – my home state, oh how I miss you… – Bernie Sanders has been fighting an uphill battle against Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump is battling with anyone who makes eye contact with him.”
Colbert then brought back “The Hungry for Power Games,” where the host, as the blue-haired Julius Flickerman, looks at the current state of the Republican Party. After each primary or caucus, more GOP candidates fall, and in Thursday night’s segment, Colbert inspected the combatants who didn’t survive the battlefield, like “Quasimodo’s handsome brother” Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina, to whom voters told the former Hewlett Packard CEO, “Control-alt-goodbye.”
