See Cyndi Lauper, James Corden Sing ‘Girls Just Want Equal Funds’
Cyndi Lauper stopped by the Late Late Show With James Corden Monday to transform her Eighties classic “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” into a passionate plea for same pay in the workplace, “Girls Just Want Equal Funds.”
“I come home in the morning light/ My mother says ‘Why don’t you make the same as a guy?’/ Oh mama, dear, we’re not the fortunate ones/ ‘Cause girls, they want equal funds,” a pink-haired Lauper sang on the updated take on her 1983 single.
Corden emerged with his own pink wig to break it down for the men watching. “Guys, if she’s mad/ It’s not PMS/ It’s ’cause you do the same job but she’s makin’ less/ Don’t need no Midol, just need more income/ ‘Cause girls, they want equal funds,” the host sang.
In 2014, President Barack Obama established an annual Equal Pay Day as a yearly reminder to help eliminate the gender pay gap.
“It’s time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a Mad Men episode,” Obama said in his final State of the Union address. “This year, let’s all come together – Congress, the White House, and businesses from Wall to Main Street – to give every woman the opportunity she deserves. Because I firmly believe when women succeed, America succeeds.”
