Kris Kristofferson Set for ‘Austin City Limits’ Hall of Fame
The third annual Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductees have been announced, with Kris Kristofferson, B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt set to be celebrated at a star-studded ceremony October 12th at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. The event will be open to the public, with ticket information announced at a later date.
Each of the iconic inductees has taken the venerable ACL stage multiple times, with Kristofferson debuting on the long-running PBS series in 1982 and returning in 1997 and 2010. He also participated in the show’s 40th anniversary special in 2014. Raitt, one of the most influential female musicians of the late 20th century, has also made a quartet of appearances on the program since 1984. In a rare event, the late blues great B.B. King appeared for the full hour of the show in 1983. He returned 13 years later.
Last year’s sophomore edition of the ACL Hall of Fame ceremony honored Asleep at the Wheel, Loretta Lynn, Guy Clark, Flaco Jiménez and the late Townes Van Zandt, with special recognition for the original television production crew that worked on the first season of Austin City Limits in 1974 and ’75. Hosted by Dwight Yoakam, the event featured memorable musical highlights from artists like Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, Jason Isbell, Patty Loveless and Gillian Welch.
Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in American television history and the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts.
