Neil Young, Mumford & Sons, Florence and the Machine and Duran Duran are among the acts that have joined 24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth: The World Is Watching, a globe-spanning, 24-hour live event aimed at advocating climate action ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. Pharrell Williams, Elton John, Hozier, Jon Bon Jovi, Walk the Moon, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Fall Out Boy will also take part in the event, which kicks off today at noon EST.
“24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth: The World Is Watching is about making sure the people of the world are informed and engaged so that they can make their voices heard in their capitals and at the negotiating table in Paris,” Former Vice President and Live Earth co-founder Al Gore said in a statement. “The UN climate talks can be a breakthrough moment to change the dangerous course we’ve set for our planet. We want the world’s leaders to know the world is watching, and it’s time for them to act.”
The 24-hour event will stream live on the Climate Reality Project site. The live broadcast will begin in Cape Town, South Africa and then move in three-hour blocks to Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Calgary, Sydney, Manila, Beijing and finally New Delhi. Along the way, 24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth: The World Is Watching will air the musical performances along with presentations from leading climate experts and activists as well as environmentally concerned politicians regarding climate change.
Gore will lead the global broadcast, which also features presenters Ryan Reynolds and Morgan Freeman. Vance Joy, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart and Laura Pausini will also have their performances aired during the 24-hour event.
