Watch Against the Current Romp in a Bounce House
Pop-rock trio Against the Current released their debut LP In Our Bones, on Friday. “Now we’ve got our feet on the ground. Now let’s start,” singer Chrissy Costanza told Rolling Stone about the new record. The interview with the pop-rock band fittingly took place at a New York City bounce house, which was more challenging than any of the bandmates anticipated.
The Poughkeepsie, New York, band (singer Costanza, guitarist Dan Gow and drummer Will Ferri) immediately got wild in the ball pit with slam dunks and cannonballs. But they might not have been ready for “Bounce Xtreme” – a part of play zone modeled after American Ninja Warrior. “I’m secretly like 800 pounds and 90 years old,” Costanza said, angling her way around the surprisingly difficult course.
Against the Current is hoping its feel-good vibes will translate to a broad audience. “The first song on the album is called ‘Running With the Wild Things,’ and it’s all about defying that society is trying to standardize you,” Costanza said. “We’re trying to say, ‘No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter what you want to do, we’re all kind of these wild things.'”
Early in their career, the band members have a lighthearted perspective on their future goals – perhaps inspired by the playful setting. “We feel like [starting a band] would really get our foot in the door for our acting careers,” Costanza joked.
