Brian Wilson Plots World Tour, Final ‘Pet Sounds’ Performances
Brian Wilson has announced a massive world tour to honor the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds, the Beach Boys‘ groundbreaking 1966 LP. The 70-plus date trek begins March 26th in Auckland, Australia, progressing through Japan and Europe. The American leg begins June 14th in Burlington, Vermont, running until late July and picking up again in September. These will be the Wilson’s final performances of Pet Sounds.
“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,” he said in a statement. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.” Pet Sounds is one of the most influential albums ever made, ranking Number Two on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Ticket presales begin Wednesday, January 27th, with official on-sales beginning Friday, January 29th. Additional dates are expected to be added.
Wilson released his 11th studio album, No Pier Pressure, in April 2015. The project featured an eclectic cast of collaborators, including country star Kacey Musgraves, indie-pop duo She & Him, Nate Ruess of alt-pop band fun. and former Beach Boys members Al Jardine, David Marks and Blondie Chaplin.
Wilson was honored last year with the L.A. tribute concert Brian Fest, which featured acts like the Flaming Lips, Norah Jones and Kesha performing some of Wilson’s most famous compositions. The Beach Boys legend was also the subject of Bill Pohlad’s acclaimed 2015 biopic Love & Mercy.
