Scotty McCreery Releases First Book: The Ram Report
Scotty McCreery has already accomplished much in his young life — winning American Idol and launching a successful recording career, for starters. Now he can add author to his resume with the release of his first book, Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream on May 3rd.
In an early chapter, McCreery describes the book as a “travelogue,” recalling specific memories and events from his life even before he wound up on the American Idol stage. The book’s title comes from McCreery’s extensive background in school sports and these days serves as a reminder to take risks and not be afraid to fail.
“‘Go big or go home’ is my mantra that I lived by from an early age. And that was mainly sports, it was mainly baseball,” McCreery explains. “It was like, man I’m gonna go out on that field I’m gonna give it my all, and if I gotta try and steal home and I get thrown out, at least I went big, stuff like that. It wasn’t until I started singing a little bit and getting on the show, where it was like, man I can kind of use that same motto for what I’m doing now. I’ve taken that and put it into my career now. You’re not going to get anywhere by just taking the easy road and not taking risks. Sometimes it’ll work out and sometimes it won’t, but at least you gave it a shot.”
Go Big or Go Home chronicles McCreery’s ups and downs both onstage and off, detailing his childhood obsession with Elvis Presley as well as growing up in front of millions on season 10 of American Idol.
“Everybody goes through their awkward teenage years, but I was going through my awkward teenage years in front of 20 million people every night so it’s just tough to watch that stuff back,” says McCreery. “I mean, hey, it was fun, it was the time of my life and it gave me my start. It’s great and all, but it’s funny to look back.”
With his book out now, McCreery can start looking ahead to the future of his music. He was dealt a setback when he was released from his contract with Universal in February, but is currently working on finding the right home for his next project.
