Watch Matt Damon Recreate Two Decades of Film Roles on ‘Corden’
Matt Damon‘s filmography ranges from high-brow to low-brow, Spielberg war epics (Saving Private Ryan) to Farrelly Brothers farce (Stuck on You). For Tuesday’s installment of “Role Call,” a hilarious recurring segment from The Late Late Show, the actor looked back at his eclectic resumé, recreating famous scenes (and reimagining others) with host James Corden.
The duo utilize low-budget props and quick costume changes, quoting famous dialogue from the past two decades of Damon. (“Do you like apples?” the actor says, referencing 1997 Oscar winner Good Will Hunting. “Well, I got a number – how do you like them apples?”). Damon also poked fun at his reliance on movie trilogies – spouting one-liners about the Ocean’s franchise (“Let’s rob a casino.” “Let’s rob a mansion on Lake Como.” “Let’s rob more casinos!”) and the Bourne flicks (“I’m Jason Bourne!” “I’m Jason Bourne.” “I’m still Jason Bourne.”)
The mood ranges from goofy-mysterious (True Grit) to faux-romantic (Behind the Candelabra, with Damon nearly kissing Corden, as Liberace), leading to jarring transitions: After referencing The Legend of Bagger Vance, Corden pulls out a prop gun from his golf bag to segue into The Departed. Most of the films are easily recognizable, but the funniest moment finds Corden pulling the plug on The Adjustment Bureau, admitting, “I’ve got no idea what’s going on” in the plot.
Damon even manages to plug his latest project, the Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi title The Martian, in which he stars as an astronaut left behind on Mars. Corden, having not seen the new release, wanders around the background of the scene dressed as an alien.
