Hear Issues’ Dynamic, Emotional New Song ‘Slow Me Down’
On their 2014 self-titled debut album, Issues mixed emo, metal, pop and R&B in a brash, modern way that left many older rock fans’ heads spinning. But that fusion sound also earned the group many young diehard fans who took the record to Number One on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Modern Rock, and Top Independent Albums charts. Now Issues are prepping to drop their follow-up, Headspace, and in anticipation, the band is premiering a new cut, “Slow Me Down,” above.
“The song is about a woman who discovers her lover has been having a long term affair and goes off the deep end,” Issues’ lead vocalist Tyler Carter explains. “She’s ultimately brought back to reality by the love and care of her devoted son. There’s a line in the song that goes, ‘My son, I gotta thank you for calling, not sure who I would be if you stopped looking out for me.’ I think that every family has that one person who’s always looking out for the others – their purpose in life is to provide and always be the rock for their family. The song was written musically as a piece for my guitar player AJ’s aunt who passed away. She was his best friend.”
Headspace is set for release May 20th via Rise Records.
