Watch the Bloody Opening of Backstreet/’N Sync Zombie Western ‘Dead 7’
SyFy’s movie Dead 7, airing April 1st, is a futuristic zombie Western with one big twist: The cast is comprised mostly of Nineties and early millennium boy-band stars. In an exclusive clip from the film, a narrator explains the premise and introduces the main characters.
So what brings together members of ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees and O-Town? A mysterious epidemic that ravages the world and leaves the undead in charge. We then meet Apocalypta, the ruler of this Mad Max-like hellscape who gives survivors a choice: “Become cattle for the army of the dead … or become warriors and fight against the growing darkness.” Cue mayhem.
Backstreet Boys‘ Nick Carter wrote the film and plays its gunfighter protagonist, Jack. He’s joined by his bandmates Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean, N’ Sync’s Joey Fatone (as “Whiskey Joe”) and Chris Kirkpatrick, 98 Degrees’ Jeff Timmons and O-Town’s Erik-Michael Estrada.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, McLean revealed his hopes that the film could gain the same level of notoriety as another SyFy feature, Sharknado. “Movies like this can turn into cult phenomenons, and that’s what Sharknado happened to be,” he said. “I watched it, I’m like ‘OK, this is ridiculous, but I’m still watching it and I think it’s awesome.'”
