See Granger Smith’s Cinderella Tale ‘If the Boot Fits’ on ‘Kimmel’
Singer-songwriter Granger Smith made his late night television debut March 22nd on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing on an episode that included Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and actor Tom Hiddleston. The Texas native, whose eighth full length Remington was released March 4th, performed his Number One “Backroad Song” as well as his Cinderella-courting current single “If the Boot Fits.”
While Smith’s long track record in the Red Dirt music scene of Texas and Oklahoma has afforded him some loyal fans, having a national radio hit with “Backroad Song” (watch below) and album released by an imprint of Broken Bow Records has given him a whole new kind of exposure.
“There’s a lot more eyes on this project now and a lot more people that we’re reaching, whether that’s [through] media or radio or even the shows — there’s a lot bigger audience surrounding Remington,” Smith tells Rolling Stone Country. “The expectations are higher, which puts more pressure on it, but at the same time the reward is so much greater and the reach is so much greater. We definitely feel a difference and we’re all excited, from top to bottom on the crew, we’re all really excited.”
Having so much previous work to his credit gives Smith a distinct advantage when it comes to performing: unlike many new artists, he’s got hours of original material in his arsenal.
“We see a lot of bands, new bands, with one single out and almost 60-70 percent of their show is cover songs, because they have to,” says Smith. “We feel grateful that we can go back on old catalog.”
Smith’s rise has also coincided with the rise of his comedic alter-ego Earl Dibbles Jr., a no-nonsense, shotgun-wielding character who does and says things that polite country artists can’t. Remington includes the older Dibbles songs “City Boy Stuck” and “Country Boy Love,” plus a new one called “Merica.”
