Lily Meola, Levi Hummon Highlight March’s New Artists: Ram Report
“I’ve been listening to Chris Stapleton a lot and I love how he can be soulful and country. That’s where I want to be,” says Lily Meola, one of Rolling Stone Country‘s 10 New Artists You Need to Know. The Hawaii native will release her debut album, They Say, on March 6th, a record that includes collaborations with Kris Kristofferson and mentor Willie Nelson.
Along with Meola, March’s New Artist list includes the pristine-voiced Levi Hummon, who calls to mind a country Ed Sheeran. Sibling trio Sister C also make the list, as do a pair of dynamic female vocalists: Morgan Myles and Shanna Henderson.
Heartland country-rock is represented too: Oklahoma native Jared Deck makes the list with a sound that evokes John Mellencamp and the more rocking side of Hayes Carll. “I used to always try and avoid songs about my life and background, or overly mask them so that nobody understood them except me,” Deck says of his unfiltered lyrics. “But I’ve opened up, and decided that the best way to feel better about what I am writing and singing is to be honest.”
