Third Man Records Releasing Music From Jack White’s Early Bands
Three of Jack White‘s early bands will be the focus of the latest installment in Third Man Records’ The Vault series. The 3xLP box set package, complete with other goodies, boasts three live performances recorded at Detroit’s Gold Dollar featuring three bands that included White as a member prior to the White Stripes: Two Star Tabernacle, the Go and Jack White and the Bricks.
The first Gold Dollar concert – a January 16th, 1998 set by Two Star Tabernacle – contains songs that would later become White Stripes staples, like “Hotel Yorba” and “Now Mary,” as well as an unheard White track titled “Itchy”; all three LPs house an unreleased White song from that era. For the Go’s November 25th, 1998 concert – where White played lead guitar with the then-Sub Pop-signed band – the group performed ” Turn Your Little Light Bulb On,” a track White penned for the Go.
The third LP finds a September 16th, 1999 concert by Jack White and the Bricks, recorded just months after the White Stripes released their self-titled debut LP. The Bricks’ show features White Stripes cuts like “You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket” and “Candy Cane Children” alongside another unreleased White track titled “One and Two.”
Each LP comes in its own custom stylized jacket and is housed in a soft touch telescoping box highlighting the Gold Dollar building; the vinyl itself is pressed to look like it’s made of gold. The box set is also packed with “facsimile reproductions of setlists, flyers, band ephemera and material the likes of which fans have come accustomed to expecting in the unrivaled Vault packages,” according to Third Man.
As an added bonus, the Vault package will also include a seven-inch of the Dead Weather’s “Let Me Through” backed by “Be Still,” two tracks off that group’s 2015 album Dodge and Burn. The seven-inch comes in “a tasty glue-pocket sleeve and pressed on the hazy mix of yellow and black vinyl.” Additionally, the set comes with a 2016 Challenge Coin that grants its bearers 10 percent off any item at the Third Man stores in Nashville and Detroit.
