B.o.B. Responds to Neil deGrasse Tyson With Flat Earth Diss Track
Atlanta rapper B.o.B. has released a new song, “Flatline,” which further expounds his belief that the Earth is flat, calls out celebrated astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and urges listeners to “research” noted Holocaust denier David Irving.
As Stereogum notes, the track follows a strange two days, during which B.o.B. spent hours on Twitter propagating the Earth-is-flat myth, which unsurprisingly attracted the sound objections of the astrophysicist. While Tyson refuted some of B.o.B.’s more dubious scientific claims, he took some jabs at the rapper as well, writing, “Being five centuries regressed in your reasoning doesn’t mean we all can’t still like your music.”
Those ideas have now become “Flatline,” a paranoid diss track in which B.o.B. raps, “Neil Tyson need to loosen up his vest / They’ll probably write that man one hell of a check.” The track also ends with an extended clip of Tyson discussing the actual “oblate” shape of the Earth, taken in this context, apparently, to sound like gibberish.
“Flatline” also finds B.o.B. worrying about masons, “a cult called science” and “mirror lizards,” ostensibly a reference to the conspiracy theory that a humanoid-reptilian elite governs the world. B.o.B. also alleges a global Jewish conspiracy, rapping, “Stalin was way worse than Hitler / That’s why the POTUS gotta wear a Kipper” after urging listeners to look up David Irving, the British Holocaust denier. He also suggests they delve into the work of Richard Sauder, who’s written extensively about the government’s network of secret underground bases and tunnels.
Since dropping “Flatline,” B.o.B. has remained disconcertingly woke, insisting on Twitter, “No I’m not crazy, yes I’m feeling fine, no I’m not doing anything stronger than weed, am I doing this to promote my music .. no.” He also added: “Since all mass media wants to make me look crazy and drag me through the mud … make sure you mention the cloning centers I talked about.”
