See Frankie Ballard’s Yearning ‘Good as Gold’ Video
The latest installment of Frankie Ballard‘s El Rio video series is for the song “Good as Gold,” which finds Ballard playing the role of a determined suitor.
“He can buy you nice things,” Ballard admits of his rival in the opening line. “But I can make your knees weak.” “So he has a house on the hill,” he continues. “I got what you really need.” Behind his vocals, the guitar plays spiraling arpeggios on the “Sweet Child o’ Mine” setting.
In the visual, Ballard parks his car by the side of the highway and sets out on a mission to track down the object of his affections. After failing to hitch a ride, the singer starts to run. Day turns into night — he’s still running. As the clip ends, he finally reaches the woman he loves, only to find that she’s on a date with another man.
“Good As Gold,” written by Mando Saenz and Justin Bogart, appears on Ballard’s El Rio album, which came out June 10th. “I knew that we needed to go to the next level with this album,” the singer told Rolling Stone Country. “The only way to do that was by focusing ourselves and getting some distractions out of our way, getting to a quiet place where we could just make music and get our heads into it. I discovered the place first, the Sonic Ranch, and it was a dream come true.”
Ballard previously shared the clips for “El Camino,” “Cigarette,” and “Sweet Time.”
