Seth Meyers Compares Trump University to Holiday Inn Med School
Donald Trump came under scrutiny after making controversial remarks about U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel’s Mexican heritage. Late Night host Seth Meyers took “A Closer Look” at the issue that could potentially detail the GOP frontrunner.
Trump insinuated the Indiana-born judge overseeing the Trump University case was unfit to adjudicate because of his ethnic background. “He’s Mexican,” Trump said last week regarding the case. “We’re building a wall between here and Mexico.”
“Some have called Trump’s attacks ‘racist’ while others have called them ‘very racist,'” Meyers said. “Now GOP leaders are squirming as they try to condemn him while also trying to support him.” The host broke down what exactly Trump University was: A series of real estate seminars held in convention rooms at area hotels, with Meyers comparing it to a commercial where a surgeon admits he didn’t go to medical school “but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.”
Meyers also discussed the ways Trump University professors allegedly up-sold their expensive course work. “They targeted single mothers who needed money for food. Even Bernie Madoff was like, ‘Wow, dog, that’s not cool,'” Meyers said.
“Republicans can’t pretend to suddenly be shocked and offended, this is who Trump was well before this latest outburst, and this is who [the GOP is] lining up to support,” Meyers said. “So remember this when Trump inevitably tries to convince you he’s not a racist.”
