See Flea Show Off Gnarly Snowboarding Wound
Earlier this week, Flea told Rolling Stone about how he broke his arm in five places while snowboarding and couldn’t play bass for six months. Now the Chili Pepper is showing off his battle wound. “See this big bump on my arm?” he says in the video above. “That’s a screw that sticks out of my arm now. … I was worried I’d never play bass again, but luckily I’m rockin’.”
Elsewhere in the clip, Flea describes how the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ modus operandi led to a five-year break between their last record, I’m With You, and their newly released The Getaway. It comes down to the way the group tours heavily on an album, he says, as well as the way they write and record and have to cope with gnarly snowboarding injuries.
In another video interview, Flea listed the music he’s been listening to lately. “This year, I like Kendrick Lamar a lot,” he says. “[There’s a] jazz guy called Kamasi Washington who I really like a lot. I listen to all kinds of music. I listen to a lot of punk rock. I listen to the great L.A. punk-rock bands like Black Flag and the Germs and the Weirdos and the Screamers.” He goes on to mention classic rockers, a litany of jazz and blues musicians, classical composers and Afrobeat artists.
