Hear Ghostface, Doom Team for Grimy ‘Lively Hood’
Ghostface Killah and DOOM‘s long-in-the-works Doomstarks project has yielded another new collaboration, with the two MCs teaming up for “Lively Hood,” the latest addition to the Adult Swim Singles series. The two veteran rappers trade verses over a Doom-produced carnivalesque beat, which is available to stream or download free through Adult Swim’s Soundcloud.
On the track, Ghostface and Doom both showcase their unique lyricism that has endeared them to hip-hop fans. “Five boroughs / Bitches of all flavors / Crooked cops locking my peoples behind cages,” Ghostface raps. “The diamond district / Body bags are all stacked up / That’s another statistic / Dirty water dogs are more than steakhouse filets / Staten Island, New York / I love my Shaolin ways.”
After Ghostface appeared on Dangerdoom’s “The Mask” and MF Doom produced tracks on Ghostface’s 2006 LPs Fishscale and More Fish, the duo partnered on their first Doomstarks collaboration with the 2011 single “Victory Laps.” A Doomstarks album was promised soon after, but never materialized; however, Ghostface revealed during a Reddit chat in December 2014 that their album would be released by the end of 2015. MF Doom also appeared on Ghostface and BadBadNotGood’s single “Ray Gun.”
Doomstarks are expected to debut new music at Miami’s III Festival October 9th through 11th, but it won’t be your typical hip-hop show: While Ghostface is scheduled to appear, Doom will be “transported Star Trek-style directly onto the III Points Festival stage.”
“Lively Doom” will also be released as a limited edition seven-inch single via Doom’s Gasdrawls.com. The Adult Swim Singles – which has already featured cuts by Danny Brown & Clams Casino, Slayer and Skrillex with Jauz – will wrap up October 5th, with subsequent tracks including Flying Lotus and Run the Jewels.
