Watch Bassnectar’s Hypnotic ‘Reaching Out’ Video
For Bassnectar‘s “Reaching Out” video, the title is taken quite literally via its lush visuals. The song is the first track on the DJ-producer’s forthcoming album, Unlimited.
Directed by David Dutton, the clip features a dancer who goes through a transformation. It opens with her inside a filmy cocoon, which she tentatively reaches through and eventually emerges. Once free, she gracefully floats through a decaying room as the song’s hypnotic, uplifting melodies and beats progress.
“The song is about human connection, but also about personal journeys and how they intersect in cathartic and beautiful ways in a kind of metamorphosis,” Bassnectar posted on YouTube. Though the song is instrumental, he added that “a voice says ‘we’re reaching out to set you free’ – as if she’s being contacted from beyond her current state of awareness.” Once she is freed from her constraints, the dancer is able to move “across the same terrain which she was once submerged in.”
Bassnectar’s 12th studio album, Untitled, will be released on Friday via his own label Amorphous Music. The album features several collaborators, including The Glitch Mob, Rye Rye, Zion I and Haley.
