Watch Deftones Debut Heavy, Winding New Song ‘Doomed User’ Live
Deftones debuted “Doomed User,” a frenzied track from their upcoming LP, Gore, on Saturday, March 5th at California’s Musink festival, Blabbermouth reports.
Fan-shot footage finds frontman Chino Moreno exploring his full vocal range – from manic shriek to soothing croon – over a barrage of power-metal riffs in shifting time signatures. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter utilizes his tremolo bar for some creepy effects on the bridge. Another, more vocal-heavy angle of the performance is available below.
Gore, the art-metal veterans’ eighth LP, will be released April 8th via Warner Bros. Records. The 11-track set, featuring dynamic lead single “Prayers/Triangles,” was co-produced by the band and Matt Hyde. Last year, Moreno told Rolling Stone that the band ventured down a more “heady” path than their recent albums.
“I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them,” he said. “If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past. It definitely feels like we’ve taken a step from our last record. But it’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are. We’re not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box.”
