Blur Blend Fan Footage for Wild ‘I Broadcast’ Video
Blur‘s new video for “I Broadcast” is for and by the people, comprising of fan footage featuring everything from mundane tasks to police marches to snippets of the band performing live.
The video keeps pace with the ragged, rambunctious song, speeding up select clips while stacking others, Brady Bunch-style. It’s a fast-paced, charmingly nonsensical mess packed with randomness — fans in cars, fans eating breakfast, a fan cleaning his floor in his underpants — as well as ice cream cones (a nod to The Magic Whip‘s neon cover) and several milk cartons, as seen in the “Coffee and TV” video.
The video features an adorable trio decked out in, and performing in front of, Blur merch, while closing with a parade of young musicians picking out the track and a diva-in-training delivering a memorable lip-sync.
“I Broadcast” joins a line of characteristically idiosyncratic Magic Whip clips (to say nothing of the band’s long history of clever videos): For “Lonesome Street,” the group recruited a cadre of Chinese folk dancers, and for “Ong Ong,” they dressed up as wacky 8-bit video game villains.
Blur released The Magic Whip in April, marking their first studio LP since 2003’s Think Tank, and first with guitarist Graham Coxon since 1999’s 13. The band has a handful of South American tour dates lined up for October alongside a rare North American appearance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 20th.
