Watch Colbert Take Down Kasich, Cruz in ‘Super Tuesday Three’ Recap
Stephen Colbert recapped the primary results from “Super Tuesday Part Three” on The Late Show Wednesday, quipping, “Like all sequels, it’s getting predictable and very expensive.”
With Hillary Clinton sweeping the five Democratic primaries, Colbert focused on the Republican races, which were once again dominated by Donald Trump — save for a win in Ohio by the state’s current governor, John Kasich. Despite it being Kasich’s first win since voting began, the candidate seemed confident he’d beat the highly improbable mathematical odds and take the nomination at the Republican convention.
Colbert retorted with an allusion to an old Ohio State fight song: “Governor, here’s a riddle: What’s round at both ends and has got to be ‘high’ in the middle?”
Tuesday’s results effectively left Ted Cruz as the only candidate who could beat Trump outside of a brokered convention, and Colbert offered up a terrifying montage of the Texas senator creepily “welcoming” voters to his campaign.
“And if Ted Cruz is right, if every single anti-Trump voter unites behind him, he could get enough delegates to be the nominee,” Colbert added. “Then the GOP establishment can say, ‘Goodbye candidate we don’t like. Hello candidate we can’t stand.'”
