See Brett Eldredge’s Smoldering ‘Into the Mystic’ Cover
In February, Brett Eldredge took country music back to the place where much of the genre was born, performing at the O2 ABC in Glasgow, Scotland. The country singer, who hit Glasgow between visits to Dublin, Ireland, and the English cities of London and Manchester, shared plenty of his own songs, including the recent hits, “Lose My Mind” and “Drunk on Your Love,” but also showed his love for the U.K. with a soulful, acoustic cover of “Into the Mystic,” a 1970 classic from one of Northern Ireland’s most acclaimed songwriters, Van Morrison.
As a bridge between the spiritual “Mystic” and his own “If You Were My Girl” (from the 2015 LP, Illinois), Eldredge explained that he wrote the latter song for a girl on whom he had a huge crush, although she was dating a “huge asshole of a guy,” and “Into the Mystic” was the kind of song he wanted to sing to tell her just how he felt.
Eldredge is back on U.S. soil and will be among the artists performing during the three-day ACM Party for a Cause, which kicks off Friday, April 1st with Carrie Underwood headlining, followed by ACM co-host Dierks Bentley headlining Saturday. Eldredge appears during Sunday’s event, which is headlined by Kenny Chesney. He’ll also perform “Drunk on Your Love” on the live ACM Awards broadcast Sunday evening.
