Hear Metallica’s Ripping Live ‘Am I Evil?’ and ‘Motorbreath’ From 1985
Metallica have posted two previously unreleased live recordings that will appear on their upcoming deluxe Ride the Lightning box set. A SoundCloud combines their cover of Diamond Head’s New Wave of British Heavy Metal epic “Am I Evil?” with their own “Motorbreath.” They recorded the songs at San Francisco’s Kabuki Theatre on March 15th, 1985. The tracks will be included on a Ride the Lightning bonus disc that will feature the entire concert when the box set comes out on April 15th.
The box set will contain the original album remastered on both CD and vinyl, as well as a live album recorded in Los Angeles on vinyl, a picture disc of their “Creeping Death” single and CDs containing vintage interviews, demos, rough mixes, the Kabuki show, a London concert and a show recorded at the U.K.’s Donington castle. It also contains a DVD of the band playing Metal Hammer Festival and Day on the Green as well as a deluxe book. A deluxe reissue of their 1983 debut, Kill ‘Em All, with similar bonus material will come out the same day.
The group, which just announced a headlining gig at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium on August 20th, has a busy second half of 2016 planned. In addition to the reissues, they are serving as Record Store Day Ambassadors next month and putting out a live recording of their 2003 concert at Paris’ Bataclan, the proceeds of which will benefit charity. They also participated in an official book chronicling the making of their 1986 album, Master of Puppets, titled Back to the Front, which will come out this year.
“I think it will be a pretty in-your-face year, at least the back half of it,” Lars Ulrich recently told Rolling Stone. “Obviously, we’ve gotta finish the new record now. But thankfully we’re quite far along. Hopefully we should be able to knock that on the head this spring, I would guess. So we will be gearing up and playing shows and doing all that fun stuff again soon.”
