Hear RZA, Interpol’s Paul Banks Raw Track ‘Love + War’
Interpol‘s Paul Banks and Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA started a new collaboration called Banks and Steelz with raw track “Love + War” that feature Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah. The track premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show. A lonesome trumpet provides the bedrock of Banks’ foreboding croons as Ghostface and RZA trade tortured, heartsick verses.
RZA revealed he and Banks were working on music together in 2013. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the rapper explained how the project came about: “My manager came to me and said, ‘Who do you want to do an album with?’ I said, ‘Well, Paul just has an energy about him. I think if we put our sandwich together it will be great.’ Me and Paul, we play chess together and just hang out. We went to the studio and we started writing songs and they sound very, very different than what I do, but very unique and very peculiar.”
Banks and Steelz are scheduled to play sets at FYF Fest in Los Angeles in August, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas in September and Austin City Limits Festival in October. The duo has also set up pop-up installations in New York City and Los Angeles.
