Watch Barack Obama’s Hilarious Chat With Jerry Seinfeld
On the eve of Barack Obama‘s last year as president, he endured what he called his most embarrassing moment as Commander-in-Chief: Sitting down with Jerry Seinfeld for an episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Although the web series usually finds Seinfeld driving around his fellow comics in a fancy automobile, Obama has “gotten off just enough funny lines to qualify for getting on this show,” Seinfeld says in the opening.
After pulling his 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe up to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and entering the White House through a side door, Seinfeld then proceeds to “Kramer” the Oval Office, making himself at home on the president’s couch and eating an apple while Obama is still hard at work. “Are these washed?” Seinfeld asks.
The two then hop into the Corvette for a drive around the White House grounds. “You seem a little nervous. Are you always this nervous, when you’re doing it with [Jimmy] Fallon and [David] Letterman? It’s not as stressful,” Obama jokes as Seinfeld navigates the Corvette around Secret Service and White House guards. Obama next gives Seinfeld a tour of “the Beast,” a custom-made Cadillac on a tank frame. “I could call a nuclear submarine right here. I bet you don’t have that in your [Corvette],” Obama tells Seinfeld. “Plus, seat warmers.”
Obama admits to Seinfeld that what he misses most is when he could just walk around a park and not be followed by Secret Service or stopped by people. “Anonymity is not something you think about as being valuable,” the president says. “With all due respect, I remember very well not being famous. It wasn’t that great,” Seinfeld remarks. Obama asks, “You think famous is being better?” Seinfeld simply raises his arms to assess the situation: Fame led him to the leather interior of “the Beast” where he’s having a conversation with the Commander-in-Chief. “I always wanted to be on a show about nothing, and here I am,” Obama says.
Later in their conversation, Obama talks about why Theodore Roosevelt was his favorite president growing up, his morning routine (shaving before working out), the time he went golfing with Larry David and whether or not he walks around the White House in his underwear.
The episode wraps up with Obama driving the 1963 Corvette. “This is a childhood dream,” he says.
