Watch Bernie Sanders Fire T-Shirt Cannon on ‘Colbert’
Following his most recent string of caucus victories, Bernie Sanders told ABC News he sees his campaign’s “path toward victory.” And the Vermont senator is taking the necessary next step toward triumph: blasting a T-shirt cannon on late-night television. Sanders made a silly-serious appearance during Thursday’s The Late Show, firing up and at the crowd after outlining why he should battle the Republican party’s eventual nominee.
Stephen Colbert brought out Sanders during the news segment “Wheel of News,” pulling a comically massive lever to land on the topic “Mystery Guest.” The Democratic hopeful answered questions about his chances to defeat Hillary Clinton, emphasizing the importance of superdelegates in the final result.
“We have won six out of the last seven caucuses, most of them by landslide victories,” Sanders said. “And I think that superdelegates should listen to the will of their people. If you get 60, 70, 80 percent of the vote, I think superdelegates should vote for us.
“What we need in the Democratic party is some democracy,” he continued. “When we are defeating Donald Trump in the last polls by 15 or 20 points, and when we are the strongest candidate, I believe, in taking on any Republican candidate, I would hope that superdelegates take a look at who the strongest Democratic candidate is. And you know what? That’s me.”
Noting he wanted to “spin that damn wheel,” Sanders walked over to the makeshift device, shocked to discover it being operated by a human being. “What are you doing to this worker?” he cracked with mock infuriation. “How long has he been putting you down here?” Setting aside those unfavorable labor conditions, the politician ended by launching T-shirts into the crowd.
