Hear Brian Johnson, Jim Breuer Screech New Song ‘Mr. Rock n Roll’
Saturday Night Live alum Jim Breuer will make his heavy-metal debut later this month when he puts out his first music album, Songs From the Garage. The raucous “Mr. Rock n Roll” is one of two songs on the record that feature guest appearances by AC/DC singer and Breuer’s friend Brian Johnson. Johnson and Breuer trade typically shrill vocals on the track, which is powered by a heavy Angus Young-style guitar riff.
Breuer says he wrote the song about the rock spirit. “Don’t ever underestimate someone’s ability to live for the moment,” Breuer tells Rolling Stone. “At the end of the day everyone has a ‘Mr. Rock n Roll’ in them.”
As for collaborating with Johnson, who embodies that spirit, the comedian says there’s even more than meets the eye. “To me, Brian is the most powerful voice in rock & roll,” he offers. “He is also the funniest and most generous man I have ever known. I am still in awe of how he recorded the song and forever thankful.”
Johnson, who recently had to depart a tour with AC/DC due to a dangerous hearing condition, recorded the tracks last year. On a 2015 episode of Sirius XM’s Opie and Jim Norton Show, Breuer said he played Johnson a number of the songs and the singer asked to see the lyrics. They then went into the studio with just a mixing board and a microphone.
Songs From the Garage – credited to Jim Breuer and the Loud & Rowdy – is due out May 27th. Former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano produced, engineered and played guitar on the album.
