Watch Samantha Bee Tear Down Kansas Senator on ‘Full Frontal’ Premiere
Samantha Bee took down a Kansas state senator and his puritanical dress code in the inaugural episode of her new TBS show, Full Frontal.
The bit was the first in what should be a very fruitful segment, “Elected Paperweight of the Month,” and found Bee tearing into Mitch Holmes, whose proposed sartorial guidelines only targeted women because he believed men already knew how to look professional.
Bee’s counterpoint featured a clip of Cher’s famous naval-based “If I Could Turn Back Time” video and the sardonic crack, “Just look how we dress to testify at a committee hearing on defense spending!” She also took several jabs at Kansas’ various economic woes and tallied Holmes’ legislative record, which included commending priests and rabbis, the Boy Scouts of America and the Wichita State University basketball team while restricting access to abortion.
“Basically, an entire legislative career spent controlling women and celebrating the groups that exclude them,” Bee cracked.
Elsewhere in the episode, Bee staged a faux press conference during which she was bombarded with questions about what it was like being a woman on late-night TV or just a “female woman” in general. After receiving a nearly normal question about how she put Full Frontal together, Bee winked, “Hard work, a great team, maybe just a little bit of magic” — and then cut to a clip of her standing at the center of an outrageous evil ritual.
“It’s true,” she beamed after, “we’re all witches!”
