Watch Rachel Bloom’s ‘Crazy’ Golden Globes 2016 Speech
Rachel Bloom won her first Golden Globe award for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the show she created and stars in.
Bloom was up against Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez, Scream Queens‘ Jamie Lee Curtis and Grace and Frankie‘s Lily Tomlin for the Best Actress, Television Comedy Series trophy. Both Curtis and Rodriguez had won in that category before, the latter having been a first-time winner for her CW series last year.
“I’m going to talk to you like people,” the actress excitedly began her speech, which recalled the difficult journey the musical comedy had to endure before finding a network (via TV Line). “We got six rejections in one day, and we felt like crap. Mark Pedowitz from the CW picked it out, and he’s the one who saved us. He’s the reason there’s a musical comedy on network television right now, and I can’t believe I’m saying that right now.”
Along with acting as the show’s lead, Bloom produces and writes for the musical comedy that was originally picked up by Showtime before being dropped. The series premiered back in October. “We were interested in exploring the issue of: What are the biological things that love does to you, when it takes over the most intellectual parts of your brain?” Bloom told Rolling Stone in November. “And I think the more intelligent you are, the more it drives you quote-unquote crazy because you know you shouldn’t be feeling this way or doing these things.”
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns on January 25th.
