Hear Gotye Admire ‘The Way You Talk’ on Ethereal Bibio Song
English musician and producer Bibio has teamed up with Australian singer Gotye for the gorgeous new song “The Way You Talk.” The track will appear on Bibio’s eighth studio album, A Mineral Love, out April 1st on Warp Records.
The sparse and atmospheric track features Gotye repeating the words “Something about the way you talk” over a sequence Bibio created with his Hohner D6 Clavinet. “The emotional nature of the track and the way I played the piano part seemed to lend itself to an Eighties ballad type sound, something I have a bit of a soft spot for,” Bibio told Rolling Stone.
Bibio and Gotye originally linked up when the latter asked the former to remix his massive hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” an international breakthrough for the artist. “There was just something about that track, the hook, the emotion, the lyrics but also his great voice, it all came together in a way that was something new but also something kind of familiar, a winning combination,” Bibio says. “Gotye himself has a unique voice but it also feels somehow familiar and I think this was one of the reasons why his track touched so many people.”
That familiarity is what drew the producer to ask the singer to appear on “The Way You Talk.” According to Bibio, Gotye added his own spin on the vocals, which added to the “‘travelling through time’ nature of the album.”
Gotye also spoke highly of the producer. “I’ve loved Bibio’s music for a number of years, and always had a soft spot for short musical vignettes that capture a certain feeling in a compelling and compact way. Also, it was a joy to sing in this scape of chorused Clavs!”
Gotye’s most recent solo album was 2011’s Making Mirrors. Last year, he released The Age of Entitlement with the Basics.
