Chris Young, Cassadee Pope Hit Number One With ‘Think of You’
When Chris Young hits the road this fall for another round of headlining dates, he’ll be bringing along opening act Cassadee Pope. The two have already logged plenty of time together on tour, with Pope joining Young during his recent spring run. As of this week, though, Young and Pope are more than just tour mates — they’re chart-topping duet partners.
“Think of You,” the tag-teamed power ballad from Young’s I’m Comin’ Over, has climbed to the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, giving Young his eighth Number One hit. Meanwhile, the song marks Pope’s first time scoring a Number One, as well as her first Top 10 entry since “Wasting All These Tears” peaked at Number Five in 2013. Young, who wrote the tune with Cory Crowder and Josh Hoge, tells Rolling Stone Country that he always had Pope’s voice in mind. . .even if it meant prematurely cutting off his co-writers’ brainstorming session for other potential partners.
“Everybody had a lot of ideas,” he admits sheepishly, “[but] I was playing a show with her in Miami, and I was like, ‘I don’t care if people are mad. I’m just gonna go ask her if she wants to do it.'”
Dan + Shay will also join Young’s tour for the first two months, followed by Dustin Lynch during the final eight weeks of shows. Kicking off in late September, the I’m Comin’ Over Tour promises to be Young’s most elaborate production to date, with improved video and lighting elements. There may be an Imagine Dragons cover, too, a sign that one of country music’s leading men is still eager to think outside of the genre’s boundaries.
