Hear Big Grams’ Playlist of Songs They Vibe To
Big Grams, the unlikely alliance of Outkast’s Big Boi and indie-rock duo Phantogram, announced themselves last year with a funky, laid-back EP of experimental hip-hop, also titled Big Grams. The trio produced most of the songs themselves, and they teamed with Run the Jewels for “Born to Shine” and welcomed 9th Wonder and Skrillex to help them with two songs. The group’s Sarah Barthel called the latter collaboration, “Drum Machine,” “dark-adelic” in an interview with Rolling Stone last year and said it kickstarted the whole project.

“I linked up with Phantogram and it was just the chemistry while I was in L.A.,” Big Boi told Rolling Stone last year. “I switched gears after we came off the Outkast tour, like, ‘Why don’t we put the [collaborative] record together?’ We started working on it and it was like, ‘Holy shit.’ Why don’t we do this first?”
To show the common ground that they share, Big Grams’ members – Big Boi and Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter – selected 14 tracks by artists ranging from Migos to Joey Bada$$ that they vibe to. One notable track that stands out among the others is their own “Drum Machine,” featuring Skrillex, the original song where they found their own vibe.
