Watch Adele Debut Soaring Ballad ‘When We Were Young’
In a preview of her Sunday appearance on 60 Minutes, Adele‘s song “When We Were Young” is played in a clip from an exclusive performance on the show. The singer’s live recording of the track takes place in the last half of the clip.
Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr. co-wrote “When We Were Young,” with Ariel Rechtshaid producing the ballad. In her interview with Rolling Stone, Adele noted that the Elton John-ish ballad was her favorite on the album. For the TV program, she belts out the soaring, smooth song in a studio with the assist of a full band and dynamic set of backing vocalists. “It was just like a movie / It was just like a song when we were young,” she sings before giving a large smile at the end of her performance.
“When We Were Young” is the only song from Adele’s sessions with Jesso that made her third album. The British singer had been one of the Canadian newcomer’s biggest advocates earlier this year when she broke a Twitter hiatus to share his “fantastic” single “How Could You Babe.”
“It’s impossible to question why she’s where she is once you sit down with her to write a song,” Jesso told Rolling Stone about working with Adele. “She was the first introduction I had to somebody who could sing words on the spot that were actually great.”
From the 60 Minutes preview, Adele also discusses her home life, the effect of having a child on her music and fame and the rapid superstardom that came with the success of 21. 25 will be released on November 20th.
