See Kelsea Ballerini’s Cinematic ‘Peter Pan’ Video
She may still be a new artist (and an award-winning one at that) but that doesn’t stop Kelsea Ballerini from thinking big when it comes to bringing her songs to life on camera. Case in point: the video for her current single “Peter Pan,” a sweeping ballad dedicated to an immature boyfriend, is decked out with daredevil planes, antique cars and custom-designed outfits blowing in the dusty wind, all directed in cinematic quality by Kristin Barlowe.
For the third single from her debut LP The First Time, behind “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Dibs,” Ballerini headed to the Las Vegas desert — but Sunday she will be on the Sin City Strip, where she’s up for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Additionally, she will perform a duet with Nick Jonas during the show (her win for New Female Artist of the Year was announced last week).
As much a songwriter as she is a performer, Ballerini co-wrote “Peter Pan” with Forest Glen Whitehead and Jesse Lee — in fact, there isn’t a single song on The First Time that she didn’t have a hand in.
“I think, for me, being a songwriter is the core of who I am as an artist,” Ballerini told Rolling Stone Country. “I always want that to be the heartbeat of what I do. I am 200 percent always writing and already working on a new record. I’m always trying to think ahead.”
