Ice Cube Teases N.W.A Reunion at Coachella
Guns N’ Roses and LCD Soundsystem might not be the only high-profile acts reuniting at Coachella: Ice Cube has strongly hinted that his set at the Indio, California festival might be the setting of an N.W.A reunion. “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves,” the rapper told The Talk Friday while promoting his new film Ride Along 2. “I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A together. Give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and N.W.A, West Side Connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years.”
The rapper also teased “We have some great visuals. Same night Guns N’ Roses get back together. It’s gonna be a great night.” Ice Cube last staged a semi-reunion with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted rap group in June when he performed alongside MC Ren and DJ Yella for the first time in over 25 years. However, that BET Experience gig did not feature Dr. Dre, who following the release of the biopic Straight Outta Compton admitted he dreamed about embarking on a tour with his one-time proteges Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar.
A week before Ice Cube’s first Coachella performance on April 16th, the rapper and the rest of N.W.A will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at an April 8th ceremony at Brooklyn’s Barclays Arena. “This means that the group’s mark is solidified,” Ice Cube told Rolling Stone. “We got some of the most creative, talented people in N.W.A that’s ever been compiled in one group. It’s just exciting that the group as a whole gets recognized by the whole industry as Hall of Fame-worthy.”
During the Straight Outta Compton promotional tour, it was also rumored that an N.W.A reunion would take place, but with Eminem filling in for Eazy E. However, like the Tupac hologram that took Coachella by storm during Dre and Snoop’s set in 2012, NME reports that Ice Cube’s promise of “great visuals” is rumored to be a hologram of the late “Boyz-N-the-Hood” rapper.
