Justin Bieber to Martha Stewart: My New Album Is ‘Very Personal’
Justin Bieber‘s Comedy Central roast not only gave us new Bieber jokes, but also sparked an unlikely friendship between the pop star and one of his roasters: Martha Stewart. To prove this bond, Stewart interviewed Bieber for his Interview Magazine cover story.
While the wealthy pair mostly discuss topics like their favorite modes of transportation (private jets for Bieber) and what he eats while searching for inspiration on his boat, the controversial singer also revealed some details on his upcoming, as-yet-untitled album.
“It’s just very personal,” Bieber reveals after Stewart asks if the new material will be romantic. “People will be able to really get into where my heart is. It’s about my journey in life — stuff that I’ve been through. Maybe I can teach a lesson, certain things that are inspiring.”
As previously reported, Bieber reaffirmed Rick Rubin and Kanye West’s involvement in the new album, but the singer has now named other key people to help him in his musical comeback. “I’m working a lot with Skrillex and Diplo and this guy named Poo Bear, who’s an incredible writer,” he says. “We’ve just been getting our groove. You kind of go through a period where you’re in there and nothing comes and nothing comes, and then, finally, it’s like bang-bang-bang — you get them all in a row. I’m at a place where I’m really happy and I’m ready to share my music.”
Skrillex and Diplo (as Jack Ü) helped bring Bieber back to the charts with their successful collaboration “Where Are Ü Now,” and the singer sees Skrillex’s “new wave” as helping create a “futuristic” sound for the new music. “We have a really good chemistry,” he says.
Bieber — who will play guitar and drums on the album — doesn’t know when the new LP will be finished, noting, “I’m just trying to get the best sound and have it be consistent and make sense with what I’m going through in my life right now.”
