Watch How to Roll a Joint Properly
Author David Bienenstock knows good bud when he sees (or smells) it. But the veteran journalist isn’t just a pro because he partakes in marijuana, the former High Times editor has been on the beat for over a decade and decided to write his book, How to Smoke Pot (Properly), to offer a fun read that covers the past, present and future of cannabis during what some view as a post-prohibition time in America. “People are still being oppressed for consuming this plant – all over the world, and in the United States,” Bienenstock tells Rolling Stone while visiting New York City from his home in California for his book launch. “I hope people will want to learn about the culture. It’s been a fun job – but I’d be smoking pot even if I didn’t have this job – but it’s been hard since in my reporting, I’ve also had to see people’s lives ruined because of drug policy. “
Despite the serious side of marijuana, we couldn’t help but ask the expert to for a demonstration. We know everyone is about vaping now – and Bienenstock explained the chemistry of why it’s a great way to get high – but we asked him to show us the proper way to roll a joint. The cannabis connoisseur shared some of his excellent Kush, showed us how to grind it and then dexterously roll a joint (although he admitted he’s not the best at it), reminding us “once you start, don’t stop. Hesitation will not be your friend.”
