See Jack White Sing ‘You Are the Sunshine of My Life’ With the Muppets
Jack White tries to play matchmaker for Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy on the season finale of ABC’s The Muppets with a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.”
Backed by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, White opens Wonder’s Talking Book hit with a sinister twist — making it slightly reminiscent of his own “Freedom at 21” — but sidles back into its sultry, soft rock grooves. As Kermit tells White in a clip from earlier in the episode, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” is his and Miss Piggy’s song — though White’s performance of the track on Miss Piggy’s talk show inadvertently sends the host running from the studio.
Both clips — the second of which also features Kermit and White singing the White Stripes’ “Fell in Love With a Girl” — are from the Canadian broadcast of The Muppets. The show’s one-hour season finale airs tonight, March 1st, in the U.S. at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Third Man Records will also release White’s cover of “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” as a physical and digital 7-inch single. The A-side will feature White’s cover with the Electric Mayhem, while the version with the entire Muppets cast will be on the B-side. The songs will be available digitally via iTunes and Tidal, while pre-orders for the vinyl through Third Man will be begin after tonight’s episode airs.
