Watch Colbert Slam Trump for Failing to Renounce David Duke, KKK
Stephen Colbert admonished Donald Trump on The Late Show Monday for failing the easiest test in politics: Not disavowing the support of former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke.
The gaffe in question came during an interview Trump gave with CNN Sunday, in which he said he knew nothing about, and had never met, David Duke. “Yeah, Trump needs to know before condemning David Duke or the KKK; it’s not like they’re Muslim or born in Mexico,” Colbert cracked.
The host then retracted a joke he made recently about Hillary Clinton after she’d failed to give a straight answer when asked if she had ever lied to the American people. “I said that was the easiest question in politics,” Colbert admitted. “I was wrong. This is the easiest question to answer in American politics. When someone asks you, ‘Will you disavow the Ku Klux Klan?,’ just say yes and start high-fiving your future cabinet.”
As for Trump’s explanation as to why he hesitated during the CNN interview, the Republican candidate blamed a lousy earpiece provided by the network. To which Colbert quipped, “Though I think he should take some responsibility for the mouthpiece; also maybe the hairpiece.”
