Hear the Next Generation of Folk-House With Bunt’s New Mixtape
German EDM duo Bunt. are combining folk music and house in infectious ways — and they’re out to make the hybrid stick. Following the traction they gained with single “Harmonica,” the band is debuting a new mixtape featuring house mixes of Elle King, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, Vance Joy and more. Listen to the exclusive premiere of the mixtape below.
Comprised of Levi and Nico, two twentysomething German students based in Stuggart, Bunt. effortlessly build upon the sound Avicii made famous a few years ago with singles “Hey Brother” and “Wake Me Up.” Mixing together electronic elements with organic, folk instruments like banjo and harmonica, Bunt. elevate the possibilities of folk-house, which has seen itself bleed over into country via The Band Perry and Lady Antebellum.
“With this mixtape,we want dance music fans saying, ‘If this is what folk music sounds like than I love it!’ and folk music fans saying, ‘If this is what dance music sounds like than I love it!'” the pair offer of their mixtape’s intentions. “We love both genres so much.”
The mixtape begins with the band’s latest single “Old Guitar,” which starts with a banjo solo mixed with synthesized trumpet. For the single, the band will be crowdsourcing their music video through musical.ly, a music app that allows users to make their own music videos through lip-syncing and special effects.
In the future, Bunt. is hoping to continue finding new approaches to fusing the rootsier worlds of folk and country with EDM. “We feel we can make something new combining these different music worlds,” they say. “It is a dream of ours to travel and be able to record one day with a live orchestra. This mixtape is a good preview of what is next.”
