Watch Mike Huckabee’s Insane, Desperate Adele Parody
Mike Huckabee has taken Republicans poaching artists’ music without permission to a new and frankly horrifying extreme thanks to the Arkansas governor’s “parody” of Adele‘s “Hello,” which turns the Number One single into both a pandering love letter to caucus state Iowa and a desperate attempt to stave off irrelevance in a crowded GOP field.
With Huckabee polling in single digits heading into the do-or-die caucus, the music video finds a less talented version of Adele singing bizarre lyrics like “Hello, Ankeny / Arctic blasts, subzero chills / Campaigning is a dream / I got frostbite, gangrene / Iowans are not for sale / They’re stubborn and picky.” On the chorus, Huckabee promises, “If Bernie wins, I’m gonna die,” with the video taking some digs at better-faring Republicans like Ted Cruz, calling him “insane” and “Canadian.”
Although the “Hello” parody goes to great lengths to namecheck Iowan food places like the Pizza Ranch, Le Mars Ice Cream and Casey’s Jerky, it does little to separate “Huck” from the other contenders other than repeating that he’s “the guy who’s long overdue.” Huckabee’s tour of Iowa continues Wednesday with Des Moines, Ames, Marshalltown and Boone, which should provide ample material should he decide to release a parody sequel.
