Larry Wilmore Praised by Fake ‘Trump’ For Controversial White House Speech
Larry Wilmore received props from a fake Donald Trump on The Nightly Show Monday for his controversial speech at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Wilmore closed his roast with an appreciation of President Obama’s service as the first black president: “Yo, Barry, you did it, my nigga!”
Earlier in The Nightly Show, Wilmore brushed aside a rebuke from Piers Morgan, who took umbrage with the host’s word choice, but failed to “properly conjugate that slur” in his own article. “‘Nigger’ is what white people use to denigrate, demean and dehumanize black people,” Wilmore explained. “And ‘nigga’ is a term some black people use between each other to take back that power.”
But Wilmore had to reckon with the unintended consequences of his speech during a fake interview with “Trump” (played by comedian Bob DiBuono). The cringe-worthy back-and-forth found “Trump” expressing his solidarity with Wilmore and praising the comedian: “You’re inciting violence with your rhetoric — I’m so proud of you” (a fight did break out between reporters from Fox News and The Huffington Post at the Correspondents Dinner, though Wilmore wasn’t to blame).
Things got worse for Wilmore as “Trump” joked how they were so simpatico, “I can’t even tell where my regular, normal skin ends and where your black skin begins.” The faux Republican frontrunner even offered Wilmore a spot as his running mate and cracked, “You used the N-word on Obama — I mean, c’mon, so bold, so courageous, such a terrific choice. I was gonna wait until my inauguration to do that.”
President Obama mocked everybody at his final White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Watch here.
