See Britney Spears Surprise Sister Jamie Lynn at the Opry
He’s introduced pretty much every country star on the planet, along with some pop and rock legends too, but even longtime Grand Ole Opry announcer Bill Cody couldn’t hide his excitement at the honors of welcoming Britney Spears to the coveted stage. The legendary radio host was beaming as he announced the pop icon and her brother Bryan as Tuesday night’s surprise guests at the Opry — a surprise to both the audience and to their little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, who was one of the night’s performers.
“I can’t believe that! My whole family kept this secret from me,” said the younger Spears after a heartfelt introduction by her sister. “I’m so honored to be at the Opry, but I’m even more honored to be here with all the people that I love the most.”
Jamie Lynn has carved a name for herself in country music, both as a songwriter and recording artist. She’s a co-writer on Jana Kramer’s hit “I Got the Boy,” and released an EP of her own, The Journey in 2014.
“There is a misconception that since my sister does pop, people just assume, ‘What is she doing singing country?’ But people forget, me and my sister grew up in Louisiana. If you met my dad, you would get it completely!” Spears told Rolling Stone Country on the day of her Grand Ole Opry debut back in 2014. “Country music was a big influence on me growing up but also it’s just the way of life, and it was the best format for me to tell my story.”
